Bula from
Fiji's most sophisticated tropical resort! Wakaya!
Susan and I have been here for 2 nights so far. When we arrived 2 days ago we
were instantly impressed with the professional presentation and tropical sophistication.
Susan and I are in oceanview bures - Guava & Hibiscus (7&8). We recommend
bures 3 and above for oceanview accommodations. The Governors Bure is well worth
the extra $200 a night.
Upon our arrival to our Bures, we had a bottle of Veuve ClicQuot waiting in
a champagne bucket covered by a woven palm frond basket and 20+ red hibiscus.
It looked like the champagne was sitting in a bed of red flowers. GORGEOUS.
The Bures have 3 air conditioners in them. One in the sitting area & mini
bar, one in the bedroom and one in the bathroom. The CD player has speakers
in the bedroom and sitting area. The bathrooms are huge with 2 sinks/vanities,
a bidet and toilet, a very long bathtub and outdoor rock shower. There is a
private garden in the back of the Bure and a front deck with 2 chairs and 2
lounges, a hammock in the trees in front (one for each bure) and 2 more lounges
by the water. There is a phone in the bure to call the front desk if you need
anything. The wet bar is stocked with sodas, Fiji Water, and white wine. Oh,
I almost forgot the cookies!!! Any other food or drinks/wine/champagne you might
want will be delivered to your Bure.
The only thing better than the Bure is the food. The food here is out of this
world. The quality, selection and presentation... cannot be found anywhere in
Fiji (in our opinion). We eat breakfast outside under a thatch roof on the deck.
The small well designed pool has a waterfall which adds to the beautiful sounds
of the breeze in the trees, Kula birds darting through the palms (brilliant
red and green lorikeets). A variety of fresh juices are available for breakfast
and a fantastic variety of breakfast dishes. The vanilla cappuccino has the
creamiest froth I have ever had. All meals have been delicious. We are almost
begging them to stop feeding us!
There are a couple nice beach areas in front of the resort and the ocean is
so calm it is like a swimming pool. There are a couple of private beaches for
picnics. Susan and I will be heading off in an hour to enjoy our own private
picnic after a short hike to one of the lookouts. We expect to enjoy champagne,
a lobster lunch, lounging around on our beach lounges, a beach umbrella for
shade and total privacy for several hours today.
Yesterday, Susan and I did nothing but enjoyed the pool, the ocean, shell collecting
(Susan found some great shells), great food, music in our bures, watching birds,
taking a nap, watching the sunset and then an incredibly delicious dinner with
Lynda Miller, the island manager (with her husband Rob). Lynda arrived to Fiji
19 years ago by sailboat from... Maui. So, the 3 of us girls chatted the evening
away. Susan, who gives an incredible facial, just gave Lynda a facial this morning.
Oh, how can I forget??? Yesterday Susan and I both experienced what was one
of the top 3 massages we have ever enjoyed in our lives!!! The massages here
are for 75 minutes and Leba managed to massage every muscle group that exists
on the body. This gal is INCREDIBLE! We hear that the other massage therapist
is awesome as well. She is off island for a few days. These two will do a DUO
massage (2 girls working on you at the same time). There is no doubt, one would
be a bowl of jello after having the two of them work on you at the same time.
We are having another massage tomorrow.
So, we are off to do our jungle walk and then beach picnic.
Signing off from the paradise island of Wakaya - where tropical meets subdued
sophistication in a perfect harmony!
Several of the agents in our office have been to Wakaya. Please give us a call
at 1-800-588-3454
and ask for a Wakaya Specialist.

Bula from day 3 at Wakaya
Club, Fiji.
Yesterday turned out better than we had expected. The beach picnic could be
the highlight of this whole trip. There is no doubt, it would have been unbearably
romantic if I was with my husband. Let me explain how the day went...
We arrived at a remote beach around 12noon. There was a hammock, 2 lounges and an umbrella (just as I thought there would be), a table, 2 chairs and then all the goodies that Joe dropped off with us. We set up the table with champagne, lobster, pasta salad and fresh green salad (grown here), garlic toasts, fresh fruit, chicken, shrimp and fish. We had to enjoy all venues available so we sat at our set table, layed in the hammock, relaxed on our lounges, sat in the water while sipping champagne, went for a swim, took a nap, went for a walk, swam some more.... 5 hours of a Wakaya Private beach picnic is enough to inspire the soul! Couples can enjoy total privacy - TOTAL PRIVACY - which is a rare commodity in Fiji. You own the beach for how many hours you reserve it. Clothing optional without a soul around. I have decided that I must bring my husband back. I had lots of fun with Susan but... the beach picnic experience begs for a romantic interlude. So, I will just have to come back with my husband Michael.
We got back to the resort and prepared for dinner. Another fantastic meal to the sound of several fijian men playing guitar and singing. We met a new couple today. They were just married at the Grand Wailea on Maui and are now honeymooning at Wakaya. It was fun talking to them since both Susan and I live on Maui.
Today we are going for a short hike and then ANOTHER beach picnic at the other private beach. Yesterday was too good not to do it again. Later today we will have another massage.
Until then, Moce....

Since my
last review, we had a wonderful last day at Wakaya. The beach picnic at Wakaya's
other beach was better than the day before. Maybe because we jumped right in
and enjoyed!!!!! It was another perfect day at the beach with really nice snorkeling
within feet of shore (at low tide). Live hard corals and tiny fish everywhere.
The set up is identical as the other beach. A hammock, 2 lounges, table and
2 chairs and umbrella. We had lobster and champagne again (we were unable to
help our selves!). Joe picked us up at 4:30pm on the dot and then took us to
our next adventure, another massage with Leba (pronounced Lemba). Once again,
we both experienced one of the best massages of our lives.
Dinner at Wakaya was excellent and mellow. We enjoyed the full moon as we dined
outside. The next morning, we were up bright and early to pack and say a slow
farewell to Wakaya. I finally figured out how to send some of the pictures I
have been taking. You should soon be able to see pictures on the review for
Moody's, Namale and Wakaya.
