Bula from Nukubati...

Here is what the last couple days have been like.... The drive from Savu Savu to Nukubati took about 3 hours. FYI - if you have clients coming in to the Labasa airport the drive is about 1- 1 1/2 hours in length on a dirt road. It is a very pretty road. Nukubati is easiest accessed by seaplane.

The drive here over the saddle of the island was gorgeous. Virgin rainfroest, rivers, some waterfalls... It was gorgeous and part of Fiji that one does not often get to see. The road from Labasa to the boat dock (it takes 5 minutes by boat to Nukubati) looks like the mountains in Raiders of the Lost Arc. There are small farms dotting the landscape.. even rice farms with thatched Bure's for homes. It was raining when I came in so I did not take any pictures. I can just tell you it was very very pretty.

Nukubati Island is a very sweet little place. There are 4 units that are duplex (2 units in each building) and 3 free standing Bures or Bungalows. The buildings are more like bungalows with no thatched. The roofs are metal and used for water catchment. This area of Fiji is quite dry, generally, and they "catch" most of their water. The food is incredibly good with an emphasis on seafood. They "farm" clams and have lobster at their fingertips. My first 3 meals here had lobster in them. They have a superior wine list (so far the 2 reds I have had are superb) and they have at least 2 excellent champagnes... Vueve Clicquot and Moet Chandon White Star. At sunset they bring you "canapes" and a glass of champagne (at Nukubati tradition) to your Bure.

This is how my yesterday went.... Wake up to the sound of Kula birds and Vanua Levu Honeyeaters (their song is like honey). My barefeet found their way to the dining bure (I have had NO slipppers on since I got here) for my lobster omlette. Then, off for a 2 tank dive to the outer and inner reefs. The first dive had lots of great stuff... mostly hard coral. After diving it was a delicious lunch, a massage, a nap, champagne sunset and then a great dinner.

Today... After sleeping like a dream..... a little email, a little breakfast and then.......
Look at the Nukubati brochure and see the 2 chairs and umbrella on the sand..... Picture me there. NOT mentioned in the brochure is an excursion to "marooned sand islands" - small sand islands that appear at low tide from 3-5 hours, depending on the moon phase. I am going out, alone with digital camera and video, with champagne and lunch packed. Then I will go snorkeling - as the snorkeling is best a little offshore by boat. For the sand bar picnics - it is dependent on the tide (today it is 10a-1:30) so it would not be available every day. They will do breakfast, lunch, sunset - but not dinner. Later today, we are supposed to go to an offshore island, Kia, to take school supplies to the village there.

The service here is awesome .... With only 7 accomodations, superb service, white sand beach, swaying palms, diving, fishing, calm water (usually), aweseome food and wine.... I think our clientele are a perfect fit. The weddings here are wonderful...

That's it for now.... I must get ready to "experience it" for the good of the company :)
Stay tuned for more info on Nukubati...
